Bridget Townsend MA, MSc.
Member: British Psychotherapy Foundation, registrant: British Psychoanalytic Council.
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor. I have had a wide experience of working with clients from many different backgrounds, with a range of emotional difficulties, in particular those associated with work stress, with bereavement, and with problems in relationships.
My training is in psychology and psychodynamic psychotherapy, at Birkbeck College, University of London, and the British Pychotherapy Foundation. I am a registrant of the British Pychoanalyic Council, and adhere to the BPC code of ethics (https://www.bpc.org.uk/).
My basis for working with clients is that the way in which our minds work is shaped largely by our early experiences, although this operates generally outside our conscious awareness. Understanding the significance of early experience can help us understand our current view of the world, our emotions and our relationships. In psychotherapy or counselling sessions you have room to express and reflect on whatever is uppermost in your mind, and in this unique space you begin to identify the underlying unconscious processes which are affecting your current ways of feeling and responding. In this way, the sessions enable you to find more appropriate ways of being, and of coping with difficulties.
Sessions take place in Chelsea SW10, and can be once, twice or three times a week.

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I work with English and Spanish-speaking clients in private and in charitable organizations.
Since 2002 a sizable part of my practice has been helping people to improve their health and wellbeing from a wide range of backgrounds. I work with people that are struggling with problems associated with anxiety and depression (e.g. abuse, addiction issues, anger management, loss or bereavement) but also with medium to long-term health conditions such as cancer, hiv/aids, or other immune conditions. I work with people who are struggling with problems associated with anxiety and depression (eg abuse, addiction issues, anger management, loss or bereavement) and also on their relationships and day-to-day functioning. In particular with people dealing with LGBTQ identity issues, going through sexual and spiritual crisis, trauma and stress or work related issues.
I graduated from the University of North London and started working as a health journalist. The experience put me in touch with Counselling therapy, and Kundalini Yoga teaching training. It also inspired me to develop a deeper spiritual connection and opened up a whole new world of awareness and meditative practice.
I completed a diploma at Westminster Adult Education Services in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB), which also led me into the MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at Birkbeck College, London University. Soon after I completed an Integrative Counselling Diploma in individual and group supervision (CASCADE). I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council, and adhere to the BPC code of ethics (https://www.bpc.org.uk/).
I see therapy as the process that encourages people to understand themselves more deeply, especially in difficult circumstances. This involves exploring early experience and developing a better understanding of unconscious motivations and repetitive patterns of relating. These early experiences can lead to destructive behaviours in relationships at home, at work, or with substance abuse.
In Counselling and Psychotherapy sessions you will have the space to express and reflect upon your feelings and concerns. Difficult emotional situations and complex issues may take some time to improve. However, the results can lead to greater acceptance and self-confidence, which will enable you to lead a more productive and fulfilling life.
Sessions take place in Paddington W2, and can be once, or twice a week.
